SUMMARY:Cutting through the noise – Europe’s leadership for Ukraine
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Center for Liberal Modernity cordially invites you to our online event Cutting through the noise: Europe’s leadership for Ukraine. The discussion will focus on Europe’s commitment to Ukraine and take into account the results of the NATO summit and the preceding G7 summit. \nGermany’s new government needs to set out its course in Ukraine and its role in a concerted European alliance. The first steps taken by Chancellor Merz demonstrated a new determination in cooperation with our European partners. It remains to be seen how far the differences with the Trump administration can be bridged and whether a European ‘coalition of the willing’ will be able to change the political and military dynamics. \nWhile new peace plans\, tactical manoeuvres\, promises and denials have become part of the daily routine\, we want to take stock of what has changed and what fundamental challenges have remained after months of rollercoaster diplomacy. \nTogether with the experts and politicians from Germany\, Ukraine and other European countries we will discuss the following questions: \n\nWhat are the pillars of this commitment and how can they withstand the ebb and flow of a long war?\nWe all want peace\, but on what terms? What are our goals with regard to the outcome of the war?\nWhat tangible steps must European allies and Germany take next to help Ukraine attain a position of strength?\nWhat can Europe bring to the table to play an independent role vis-à-vis the Trump White House and the Kremlin?\n\n  \nSpeakers \nFlorian Hahn\, Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office (tbc) \nAndriy Zagorodnyuk\, Former Minister of Defense of Ukraine\, Distinguished Fellow at Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center\, Chairman at Centre for Defense Strategies \nJana Kobzova\, European Council on Foreign Relations \nAnastasia Fomitschova\, researcher in political science affiliated to the Chair of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Ottawa (Canada) and paramedic in the medical batallion Hospitallers  \n  \nModeration \nRalf Fücks\, Managing director\, Center for Liberal Modernity \nTo join the online event\, kindly register via the link above. \n
