SUMMARY:Einladung zum Post-Wahl Frühstück: Polen hatte die Wahl
DESCRIPTION:  \nSehr geehrte Damen und Herren\, \n\nwohin wird Polen sich in den nächs­ten Jahren entwi­ckeln? Die Ent­schei­dung am 1. Juni zwi­schen dem pro-euro­päi­­schen\, zukunfts­ori­en­tierten Rafał Trzas­kowski (53) und dem EU-Skep­ti­ker Karol Naw­ro­cki (42)\, wird von entschei­dender Bedeu­tung für die Zukunft des Landes sein. \nGewinnt Ers­te­rer erhält die Regie­rung Donald Tusks den Verbün­deten\, den sie braucht\, um den von der PiS betrie­benen Umbau demokra­ti­scher Insti­tu­tionen rückab­zu­wi­ckeln und die Rolle Polens in der EU weiter zu stärken. Gewinnt Naw­ro­cki\, der Wunsch­kan­didat des PiS-Vor­si­t­­zen­den Jarosław Kac­zyń­ski\, wird hier mit wei­te­ren Blo­cka­den zu rechnen sein. \nSchon die erste Runde der polni­schen Präsi­dent­schaftswahl am 18.05.2025 hielt einige Überra­schungen bereit. Ins­ge­samt drei­zehn Kandi­daten bewar­ben sich um die Nach­folge Andrzej Dudas\, der nach zwei Amts­zei­ten nicht mehr antre­ten konnte. Zwar lösten die beiden Favo­ri­ten\, der liberal-kon­ser­­va­tive War­schauer Bürger­meister Rafał Trzas­kowski und der natio­nal­kon­ser­vative Leiter des Insti­tuts für Natio­nales Geden­ken Karol Naw­ro­cki\, mit 31\,4 % bzw. 29\,5 % der Stimmen das Ticket für die Stich­wahl\, ansons­ten kam einiges anders als erwar­tet: Trzas­kowskis Vor­sprung vor Naw­ro­cki schmolz auf weniger als zwei Prozent – kurz vor der Wahl waren noch mehr als vier Prozent voraus­gesagt worden. Auf den Plätzen drei und vier lan­de­ten der rechts­li­bertäre Sła­wo­mir Mentzen (14\,81 %) und der offen rechts­ra­dikale Grze­gorz Braun (6\,34%) und erhiel­ten zusam­men über 20 Prozent der Wähler­stimmen. Mentzen und der Linke Adrian Zan­dberg (4\,86%) waren die erfolg­reichsten Kandi­daten bei den unter 30-jäh­ri­gen – mehr als die Hälfte stimmte für einen der beiden Kandidaten. \nDie entschei­dende Frage ist nun\, wem es gelingt im zweiten Wahl­gang\, nicht nur die eigenen Wähler zu mobili­sieren\, sondern auch Unent­schlossene sowie die Wähler der ausge­schie­denen Kandi­daten zu über­zeu­gen. Kann Rafał Trzas­kowski die Wähler der linken und zentris­ti­schen Kandi­daten gewin­nen? Wird es Naw­ro­cki tat­säch­lich gelin­gen\, die Wähler von Braun und Mentzen zu über­zeu­gen in der zweiten Runde für ihn zu stimmen? Noch ist das alles offen. SUMMARY:Keeping Georgia on the EU-Enlar­gement Agenda: Visit of Georgian Civil Society Repre­sen­ta­tives to Brussels
DESCRIPTION:Back­ground \nAs Georgia faces its most serious poli­ti­cal crisis since indepen­dence\, the country is rapidly sliding (or has already slid) into autho­ri­ta­rianism under the current ruling party – the Geor­gian Dream. The adop­tion of repres­sive laws—including legis­lation inspi­red by the Russian “foreign agents” model\, Ame­ri­can FARA\, new media regula­tions\, and new laws curbing the human rights\, inclu­ding freedom of speech and assembly—signals an open crack­down on civil society\, media\, poli­ti­cal oppo­si­tion\, and pro-Euro­pean voices. This backsli­ding threa­tens not only the country’s demo­cra­tic fabric but also its Euro­pean future. This also firmly places Georgia in the Russian orbit. \nIn this cri­ti­cal moment\, a group of leading Geor­gian civil society repre­sen­ta­tives will visit Brussels to brief key EU insti­tu­tions\, poli­ti­cal groups\, and part­ners about the situa­tion on the ground. The dele­ga­tion\, orga­ni­zed by the Center of Liberal Moder­nity and the Konrad Ade­nauer Stif­tung Euro­pean Office brings tog­e­ther diverse exper­tise and net­works\, unified by a shared com­mit­ment to demo­cra­tic values and the defense of Georgia’s Euro­pean path. \nPurpose \nThe purpose of the visit is to provide EU stake­holders with a timely and accu­rate brie­fing on the deepe­ning poli­ti­cal crisis in Georgia\, marked by the ruling party’s autho­ri­tarian drift and escala­ting repres­sion against inde­pen­dent voices. The dis­cus­sion will focus on Europe’s com­mit­ment to Ukraine and take into account the results of the NATO summit and the pre­ce­ding G7 summit. \nGermany’s new govern­ment needs to set out its course in Ukraine and its role in a con­cer­ted Euro­pean alli­ance. The first steps taken by Chan­cellor Merz demons­trated a new deter­mi­nation in coope­ration with our Euro­pean part­ners. It remains to be seen how far the diffe­rences with the Trump adminis­tration can be bridged and whether a Euro­pean ‘coali­tion of the willing’ will be able to change the poli­ti­cal and mili­tary dynamics. \nWhile new peace plans\, tac­ti­cal mano­eu­vres\, pro­mi­ses and denials have become part of the daily routine\, we want to take stock of what has changed and what funda­mental chal­lenges have remained after months of roller­co­aster diplomacy. \nTog­e­ther with the experts and politi­cians from Germany\, Ukraine and other Euro­pean count­ries we will discuss the fol­lo­wing questions: \n\nWhat are the pillars of this com­mit­ment and how can they with­stand the ebb and flow of a long war?\nWe all want peace\, but on what terms?
