As Georgia faces its most serious poli\u00adti\u00adcal crisis since indepen\u00addence, the country is rapidly sliding (or has already slid) into autho\u00adri\u00adta\u00adrianism under the current ruling party \u2013 the Geor\u00adgian Dream. The adop\u00adtion of repres\u00adsive laws\u2014including legis\u00adlation inspi\u00adred by the Russian \u201cforeign agents\u201d model, Ame\u00adri\u00adcan FARA, new media regula\u00adtions, and new laws curbing the human rights, inclu\u00adding freedom of speech and assembly\u2014signals an open crack\u00addown on civil society, media, poli\u00adti\u00adcal oppo\u00adsi\u00adtion, and pro-Euro\u00adpean voices. This backsli\u00adding threa\u00adtens not only the country\u2019s demo\u00adcra\u00adtic fabric but also its Euro\u00adpean future. This also firmly places Georgia in the Russian orbit.<\/p>\n

In this cri\u00adti\u00adcal moment, a group of leading Geor\u00adgian civil society repre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtives will visit Brussels to brief key EU insti\u00adtu\u00adtions, poli\u00adti\u00adcal groups, and part\u00adners about the situa\u00adtion on the ground. The dele\u00adga\u00adtion, orga\u00adni\u00adzed by the Center of Liberal Moder\u00adnity and the Konrad Ade\u00adnauer Stif\u00adtung Euro\u00adpean Office brings tog\u00ade\u00adther diverse exper\u00adtise and net\u00adworks, unified by a shared com\u00admit\u00adment to demo\u00adcra\u00adtic values and the defense of Georgia\u2019s Euro\u00adpean path.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the visit is to provide EU stake\u00adholders with a timely and accu\u00adrate brie\u00adfing on the deepe\u00adning poli\u00adti\u00adcal crisis in Georgia, marked by the ruling party\u2019s autho\u00adri\u00adtarian drift and escala\u00adting repres\u00adsion against inde\u00adpen\u00addent voices.
